Marbella, accompanying dreams and celebrating life

In July 2017 we traveled with Pablo to Marbella for a very special reason.

Our son Tomás had just turned 19 years old and had made a decision that filled us with pride: to spend a season working in Spain.

Marbella was not an unknown place for us, on the contrary, it was a city to which we always returned with joy because there we had very dear friends, affectionate affections and many memories accumulated over the years.

Among them was Pedro, an exceptional friend who opened the doors of his house to welcome Tomás during that experience.

Today Pedro is no longer physically with us, but he continues to occupy a special place in our hearts and each memory of that trip inevitably also leads us to remember him fondly.

As parents, we felt the need to closely accompany this new stage that our son was beginning, and what we found when we arrived filled us with satisfaction.

Tomás had worried about getting a job, organizing his daily life, buying a car to get around and beginning to function with the independence of an adult.

Seeing him take on responsibilities, solve everyday problems and build his own path was a deeply gratifying experience, and I still remember with deep love that coffee that he prepared for me at the beach bar where he worked.

However, that trip also had another very special meaning for us because just eight months before, Pablo had gone through an extremely delicate health situation.

For a long time, walking, moving or making significant physical efforts had been a real difficulty, and even the possibility of facing such a long flight seemed unthinkable.

Therefore, when the doctors finally authorized the trip, we knew that it would not only be a family visit, but that it would also be a way to celebrate his recovery, life and that, little by little, things were beginning to fall into place again.

Of course we had to take many precautions since each walk required planning, each activity had to be adapted to Pablo’s physical possibilities and we were constantly attentive to his well-being.

But far from clouding the experience, these circumstances made us value each shared moment even more.

We enjoyed long walks through Marbella, toured its charming old town, shared endless lunches with friends, contemplated the Mediterranean and enjoyed the tranquility of a city that combines history, elegance and an extraordinary quality of life.

The streets decorated with flowers, the squares full of life, the restaurants facing the sea and the warmth of the people made every day have something special.

But the most valuable thing was not the landscapes but sharing the growth of our son, the friendship of people who had accompanied us for so many years, Pablo’s recovery and the joy of seeing that, even after the most difficult moments, life always finds a way to give us new opportunities.

When I remember that trip today I think that Marbella was much more than a destination.

It was the perfect setting to accompany Tomás’ first steps as an adult and to be grateful, as a family, for the possibility of continuing to build memories together.

Sometimes the most important trips are not the ones we take to get to know a place, but those that allow us to accompany those we love in decisive moments of their lives.
