Malaga, the city where the Mediterranean embraces history

Some cities manage to conquer us from the first moment. This is what happened to me with Malaga, a vibrant, elegant and welcoming city that combines the energy of the Mediterranean with the unmistakable charm of Andalusia.

Every time I return to this place I feel a special energy: a perfect mix between history, sea, joy and that warmth so characteristic of southern Spain.

Málaga surprises from the first moment.

Not only because of the beauty of its landscapes or the color of the Mediterranean, but because it manages to preserve the Andalusian soul even though it is a modern, vibrant city full of movement.

Walking its streets is a wonderful experience. The small pedestrian streets of the historic center are full of life, flowers, music and charming corners where there always seems to be something to discover.

Walking down the famous  Calle Marqués de Larios was to feel the true heart of the city. Elegant, bright and always lively, this street connects much of Malaga’s cultural and social life.

Street performers, crowded cafes, traditional shops and perfectly preserved historic buildings appear at every turn.

But Malaga is not just a city.

Malaga is also the sea, and that is constantly felt.

One of the most beautiful moments of this last trip was walking along the Mediterranean while the sea breeze accompanied the afternoon. There is something deeply relaxing about watching the movement of water and seeing how everyday life seems to move more slowly in front of the sea.

I was also very impressed by the imposing  Alcazaba of Málaga, a fortress steeped in history from where you can get incredible views of the city and the port, which this year I visited for the first time accompanied by my nieces Clara and Isabel.

Walking through its walls, gardens and old corridors allows you to imagine the different eras that Malaga went through over the centuries.

Very close by, the  Roman Theater of Málaga remembers the enormous cultural and historical wealth that this city has.

Málaga achieves something difficult: combining past and present with absolute naturalness.

I also really enjoyed the local cuisine, tasting typical Andalusian flavors and observing the movement of the city turned each meal into a special experience.

But if there is something that really makes Malaga unforgettable, it is its atmosphere, because the city transmits joy.

It is perceived in the conversations, in the squares full of people, in the music that appears unexpectedly on some corner and in the relaxed way in which people enjoy every moment.

As night falls, Málaga transforms again.

The lights illuminate the historic center, the terraces fill with life and the Mediterranean silently accompanies the scene. Everything acquires a warm and romantic air that is difficult to forget.

As I walked through its streets I understood why so many people return to this city again and again.

Because Malaga is not only a tourist destination, but it is an experience that mixes culture, history, sea and emotion in a unique way.

And it is all of this together that means there are always reasons to return to Malaga.
