San Juan de Puerto Rico: history, colors and the Caribbean at its best

San Juan is a city that has its own energy, difficult to explain but easy to feel, because for me it is vibrant, colorful and deeply linked to its history, with the sea always present as a backdrop.

This place combines the charm of the Caribbean with centuries of Spanish colonial heritage, creating a unique blend of past and present.

Old San Juan: history among colorful streets

Walking through  Old San Juan  is like entering another era because its cobblestone streets, intensely colored facades and wrought iron balconies tell the story of a city that was a strategic point in the Caribbean for centuries.

Each corner looks like a postcard: blue, yellow, pink houses, all bathed in a light that intensifies the colors even more.

The San Felipe del Morro Castle

One of the most important icons of the city is the  Castillo San Felipe del Morro, an imposing fortress built to protect the city from attacks by sea.

Located in front of the Atlantic Ocean, El Morro dominates the landscape with its walls, its canyons and its wide green fields where today kites fly and families and travelers gather.

It is a place where history feels very present.

The sea as the protagonist

San Juan is completely linked to the ocean and its urban beaches, its constant breeze and the sound of water are part of the daily rhythm of the city.

The contrast between the historic city and the open sea creates a very special atmosphere, where the ancient and the natural coexist in balance.

Caribbean culture, music and life

Beyond its history, San Juan is also rhythm and life.

The music, the gastronomy and the warmth of its people are an essential part of the experience.

On my visit to this city we walked a lot and stopped in its squares enjoying the relaxed atmosphere of the Caribbean, but I left with the feeling that I will return another time.
