Nassau, Bahamas: between turquoise waters, history and the charm of the Caribbean

I had the opportunity to visit Nassau with Pablo and, from the first moment, we were captivated by the combination of crystal clear waters, colonial architecture and that relaxed atmosphere so characteristic of the Caribbean.

When we arrived in Nassau in 2022, the city was preparing to celebrate the 49th anniversary of its independence, and that is why the streets were decorated with the colors of the national flag and there was an atmosphere of joy that made the experience of touring the capital even more special.

It was a nice opportunity to get closer to the local culture and understand the deep pride that Bahamians feel for their country.

A city between history and the sea

Nassau is located on the island of New Providence and is the largest city in the Bahamas. Despite being the capital of the country, it maintains a calm atmosphere that invites you to explore it without rushing.

Its colorful streets, British colonial-style buildings and small shops give it its own personality.

Walking through the historic center allows you to discover old buildings, squares and corners that tell part of the history of this archipelago that for centuries was a refuge for merchants, sailors and even pirates.

But, without a doubt, the real protagonist is the sea.

The impossible color of water

I have seen beautiful beaches in different places around the world, but I have rarely found water with such intense hues as those in Nassau.

The colors constantly change between bright turquoise, deep blues and transparencies that allow you to observe the bottom with surprising clarity and, from the coast, the boats seem to float on air due to the purity of the water.

A destination to enjoy without rush

What I remember most about Nassau is that feeling of tranquility that can be felt in every corner.

The warm climate, the sea breeze and the relaxed pace of the island invite you to slow down.

With Pablo we enjoyed long walks by the sea, watching how the sunlight transformed the colors of the water as the day progressed.

It is those simple moments that end up becoming the most valuable memories of a trip.

Beyond postcards

Nassau offers much more than paradisiacal beaches because it is a place where history, Caribbean culture and the hospitality of its people coexist.

That’s why I felt on that trip that behind every perfect landscape there was a living city, with traditions, flavors and customs that enriched our visit.
