Positano: the vertical beauty of the Mediterranean

Positano is one of those places that seem not to be completely supported by reality.

In November 2022 I met him with my sister and my parents, and from the first moment the sensation was that of being in front of a living postcard, where the mountains, the sea and the houses combine in an almost impossible harmony.

Arrival on the Amalfi Coast already anticipates what you are going to experience.

A path of continuous curves, unexpected viewpoints and a sea that appears and disappears among the geography. But Positano, when it finally shows itself, has an immediate impact: it flows down the mountain like a waterfall of colors.

Houses in soft tones – pink, ochre, white – are stacked on the hillside until they meet the Tyrrhenian Sea.

Everything in Positano is vertical and everything invites you to look up or down, but rarely in a straight line.

Walking through it involves walking slowly.

Stairs that connect levels of the town, narrow alleys full of life, small businesses, terraces with flowers and corners where time seems to stop.

The sound of the sea is always present, even when you cannot see it.

And it mixes with the voices, the soft music and the constant murmur of those who walk through the place.

The beach, upon reaching water level, offers another perspective.

From there, Positano is revealed in its entirety: the mountain enveloping the town, the colors climbing upwards and the Mediterranean opening in front of the entire complex.

As a family, the experience had a special warmth.

Sharing the amazement, stopping at the viewpoints, looking together at that landscape that seems designed more by emotion than by geography, made the memory even deeper.

Positano is not a place that you cross quickly, it is a place that you contemplate, that you go down, that you go up, that you look at again from different angles and always leaves the same sensation: that of a beauty that does not need explanation.

In September of this year 2026 I will return to Positano to get to know it a little better with lifelong friends.
