On the coast of Puglia, white stone cliffs overlook a sea of intense blue tones, creating one of the most emblematic landscapes in southern Italy.
There is Polignano a Mare, a town that combines natural beauty, history and Mediterranean charm.
Located in the Apulia region of southern Italy, this small town perched on limestone cliffs overlooks the Adriatic Sea as if it were floating on water.
Its white houses, balconies with endless views and narrow alleys create an image that remains etched long after you have left it.
We visited it in October 2025, together with my parents, my sister and my daughter.
Traveling like this gave the place a different dimension, closer, more emotional. Because Polignano is not just a landscape; It is a scenario that invites you to share.
The old town is small, almost intimate and can be explored on foot without the need for a map, letting yourself be carried away by the stone streets that go up, down and suddenly open towards natural viewpoints over the sea.
In every corner there is a postcard, a door open to the deep blue of the Adriatic, a balcony that seems suspended over the void or a phrase written on the walls that reminds us that this town also lives on poetry and emotions.
The sea is always present, not as a distant element, but as a constant presence that accompanies every step.
From the viewpoints, the water looks intense, deep, with tones that change depending on the light of the day, but if there is one image that defines Polignano a Mare, it is that of its cliffs.
The town rests on them with impressive naturalness, as if the architecture had learned to coexist with the verticality of the landscape.
Below, the sea hits the rock with a calm and constant force.
Among the most famous corners is Lama Monachile, a small cove nestled between stone walls that seems designed by nature to surprise those who discover it for the first time.
There, the contrast between the white rock and the blue water creates one of the most recognizable postcards of southern Italy.
Walking through Polignano is also to encounter its daily life: small cafes with terraces open to the sea, restaurants where the aroma of fresh fish mixes with the sea breeze, local shops where simplicity is part of the charm and streets where people stop to talk, to look at the landscape or simply to let time pass.
Traveling as a family made the experience even more special.
Sharing the viewpoints, the slow walks, the improvised photos and the silences in front of the sea turned the tour into something more than a tourist visit.
There was something in the way each one observed the landscape that made the place multiply, as if Polignano offered a different version for each look.
The most special moment comes, as usually happens in many places in southern Italy, at sunset.
The light turns golden, the shadows soften and the town seems to slowly light up on the cliff.
That’s when you understand why so many travelers return to this place again and again.
Because Polignano is not exhausted in a single image, it is discovered in layers.
You walk, you contemplate and you remember, because there are places that are not only visited but incorporated into memory.
