Las Terrenas: the place where I discovered how I wanted to live

Sometimes a destination surprises us with its beauty. Other times, because of the warmth of its people. But on very special occasions, a place manages to stay with a part of our hearts. That was exactly what happened to me in Las Terrenas.

Located on the Samaná peninsula, in the Dominican Republic, Las Terrenas is known for its extensive beaches of clear sand, its turquoise waters and the tranquility that can be breathed in every corner. However, when I think about this place, the first thing that comes to mind is not its landscapes.

The first thing I remember is a feeling.

A sensation that appeared several years ago, during one of my visits, and that has never left me since.

It was there that I understood how I wanted to live my life.

For a while I thought that what fascinated me about Las Terrenas was simply its natural beauty. And it is true that the place is extraordinary. Its beaches seem to extend to the horizon, the sea presents shades of blue that are difficult to find elsewhere and nature accompanies each journey with a constant and harmonious presence.

But over time I understood that there was something more.

It wasn’t just that the place was beautiful, it was that I felt different being there.

Lighter, calmer, more connected to myself, more present.

As if somehow everything that usually takes up space in everyday life lost importance in front of the sea, the light and the simplicity of the days.

Las Terrenas has that capacity and it invited me to slow down, to walk slowly, to sit in front of the ocean without feeling the need to do anything else and to enjoy time without constantly measuring it.

Each visit becomes an opportunity to remember that happiness is often found in the simplest things.

A walk on the beach, a quiet conversation, the sound of the sea at the end of the afternoon, the feeling of freedom that appears when you stop running after everything.

Maybe that’s why I always come back.

Because Las Terrenas is no longer just a destination for me.

Over the years it has become a kind of home.

A place where I find myself again with what I really value.

Many times, when talking about the Dominican Republic, the first recommendations are usually Punta Cana or Bayahibe. They are wonderful destinations and widely known by those who visit the country.

However, I always think that those who don’t know Las Terrenas are missing out on a very special part of the Dominican Republic.

Here the beaches seem endless, the people transmit a genuine warmth and daily life maintains a closeness that is difficult to find in other more developed tourist destinations.

And there is a permanent feeling of freedom.

Freedom to walk, to explore, to stop, to breathe deeply and simply enjoy.

Every time I look at the sea from one of its beaches I once again experience that same certainty that appeared during my first visit.

It’s not just about a beautiful place, it’s about how I feel when I’m there.

And I think that’s what sets certain destinations apart from the rest.

Because we like some places.

Others impress us.

But a few have the ability to transform us.

Las Terrenas did that with me.

And for that reason it will continue to be one of those places to which I always want to return.

If you go

📍 Las Terrenas, Samaná Peninsula, Dominican Republic.

🌴 Ideal for those looking for extensive beaches, nature, tranquility and a more authentic Caribbean experience.

🚶 My recommendation: explore its beaches on foot, without strict schedules or plans. Much of the magic of Las Terrenas appears precisely when one allows oneself to enjoy the slow pace of the place.

🌊 Don’t limit yourself to just one beach. Each corner of the coast offers different landscapes and the opportunity to discover why so many people end up falling in love with this place.

💙 And above all, give yourself time. Las Terrenas is not a destination to rush through. It is a place to feel.
